One World Collective

I am part of collaborative project with eight other photographers, representing eight countries around the world, the One World Collective.

We are seeking to emulate the great The Family of Man exhibit, curated by the Museum of Modern Art in 1955.

Each month we will explore what humanity means to us and our lives through the quotes used in The Family of Man exhibit. This month our quote was that of a Navajo Indian:

Before me peaceful, Behind me peaceful, Under me peaceful, Over me peaceful, All around me peaceful…

The contributions from each of us can be seen here.

I explored the idea of end of life for my Nanna. She turns 99 next month. As I took pictures of her, she said ‘I’m tired of living’ as she often does. She is ready to move on, but her body is not. She spends her days quietly waiting it out. Her mind is still pretty sharp. Her body still largely strong and healthy. Though she hasn’t the energy or eye sight to do very much. She is at peace with her life lived. She is at peace with dying. I feel this is a form of peace, just not the ‘hopeful’ kind we think of automatically in our young years.
